Successful customer business ensures strong results Media release ( ad hoc announcement pursuant to Art . 53 KR ) Berner Kantonalbank AG ( BEKB ) achieved a very good result in the first half of 2026 and was able to further strengthen its market position . BEKB benefited from strong investment business and continued high demand for financing . Profit rose by 8.3 percent year - on - year to CHF 82.6 million . Operating profit increased by 12.3 percent to CHF 127.8 million . The first half of the year was characterized by geopolitical uncertainties , intense competition , and a continued challenging interest rate environment . At the same time , however , the Swiss economy proved robust , from which BEKB was able to benefit thanks to its strong regional roots . Customer business is growing continuously Customer deposits rose by 2.4 percent to CHF 28.8 billion , while customer loans increased by 2.6 percent to CHF 32.8 billion . The mortgage business performed particularly well . BEKB was able to further expand its strong market position in the financing sector and gain additional market share . This growth continues to be achieved with a moderate risk appetite and the bank's proven high quality standards . With a total capital ratio of over 20 percent , BEKB continues to have excellent equity capital and significantly exceeds regulatory requirements . The investment and asset management business also saw strong growth . The continued high demand for investment , retirement planning , and advisory solutions led to excellent results in the commission and service business ( +11.9 percent ) . The consistent investments of recent years in advisory expertise and investment opportunities are paying off . The broad diversification of the business model has proven successful . While the interest income business maintained its position as a reliable source of revenue despite ongoing margin pressure , the investment and asset management business made an above - average contribution to the result . At the Annual General Meeting on May 12, 2026, long-serving Chairwoman Antoinette Hunziker- Ebneter handed over responsibility to Dr. Annelis Lüscher Hämmerli.
