Third Quarter 2021 Financial Results During the three months ended March 31 , 2021 the Company recognized $ 0.6 million of services revenue related to work performed for Mount Sinai and $ 0.1 of testing revenue . Cost of revenue for the three months ended March 31 , 2021 was $ 0.2 million . Operating expense for the three months ended March 31 , 2021 was $ 8.1 million compared with $ 2.7 million during the three months ended March 31 , 2020 . Research and development expenses increased by $ 1.7 million from $ 1.4 million for the three months ended March 31 , 2020 to $ 3.1 million for the three months ended March 31 , 2021. The increase in R & D was primarily due to increased headcount , consulting , and professional fees to support the ongoing development of KidneyIntelX as well as research studies focused on long - term effects of COVID - 19 on kidney health . General and administrative expenses increased by $ 4.2 million from $ 1.3 million for the three months ended March 31 , 2020 to $ 5.5 million for the three months ended March 31 , 2021.
