( " Terna " ) , chaired by Valentina Bosetti , has examined and approved the results for the nine months ended 30 September 2021 . The first nine months of the year saw a continuous recovery in electricity consumption in Italy , which rose 6.2 % during the period compared to the previous year . Against this backdrop , Terna recorded an improvement in its results , continuing with the major acceleration in investment in order to deliver the energy transition : in particular , Terna's total capital expenditure in the first nine months amounted to € 925.3 million , a 23.5 % increase compared to the same period of 2020 , which had already registered 11.9 % growth compared to 2019 , the year before the Covid - 19 pandemic . " Since May of last year , we have decided to significantly step - up Terna's activity , in recognition of our key role in leading the energy transition and driving the Country's economic recovery , ” said Stefano Donnarumma , Terna's CEO and General Manager .
