1. Qualitative Information for the Second Quarter of Fiscal Year 2026 (1) Explanation of Business Results During the second quarter of fiscal year 2026 (April 1, 2026–June 30, 2026), the semiconductor market grew on a volume basis, driven by AI-related demand and including prod ucts for industrial use, for which recovery had lagged. Strong growth was seen also on a monetary value basis, helped by rising memory prices. Shipments of 300 mm silicon wafers saw a large increase, as strong demand continued for leading-edge logic and memory used in AI data centers. Shipments of wafers of 200 mm and smaller increased as well, even though demand varied across customers and products. In this environment, the SUMCO Group focused on maintaining its high market share of leading-edge products, carrying on with technology development aimed at meeting customer needs for higher precision and producing distinctive products. We further made efforts to boost our cost competitiveness, including by raising productivity with the use of AI. We have been restructuring our production of 200 mm and smaller wafers, continuing our efforts to enhance efficiency and profitability. As a result, for the period under review, the Group registered consolidated net sales of 215,016 million yen, operating loss of 6,363 million yen, ordinary loss of 12,179 million yen, and loss attributable to owners of parent of 12,895 million yen. (2) Explanation of Financial Results Forecasts In the third quarter of fiscal year 2026 (July 1, 2026–September 30, 2026), 300 mm wafers are expected to see strong demand for leading-edge lo gic and DRAM for AI applications, while demand for NAND use is also projected to grow in line with the expansion of server SSDs. The supply-demand situation for 300 mm wafers overall is expected to continue improving as inventor y drawdown by customers proceeds. As for wafers of 200 mm and smaller, despite demand variance among customers and products, gradual recovery is seen. The Group will further enhance its response capability by upgrading its manufacturing facilities for 300 mm products, in light of continued strong demand growth for leading-edge products. As for 200 mm and smaller wafers, we will strive to improve efficiency and profitability through initiatives such as reorganizing our production systems. Risks from the situation in the Middle East have not affected our operations at this time, but there are concerns about the impact on procurement costs including for electric power and materials. We will continue closely watching the impacts on the market environment from geopolitical risks and the policies of individual countries, paying special attention to the impact on demand for end products containing semiconductors. Since the semiconductor industry to which the Group belongs is characterized by drastic and short-term changes in the business environment, the Group has adopted the policy of disclosing financial results forecasts for the forthcoming quarter only.
