For the nine months ended September 30 , 2021 , Bank First earned $ 34.3 million , or $ 4.45 per share , compared to $ 26.5 million , or $ 3.57 per share for the same period in 2020 . Operating Results Net interest income ( " NII " ) during the third quarter of 2021 was $ 22.9 million , up $ 1.1 million from the previous quarter and matching the third quarter of 2020. NII for the first nine months of 2021 was $ 66.9 million , up from $ 62.4 million for the first nine months of 2020 . Throughout the previous 18 months Bank First was a very active participant in the Paycheck Protection Program ( " PPP ” ) , a Small Business Administration ( " SBA " ) loan program aimed at supporting small business through the turbulent economic environment created by the COVID - 19 pandemic ( " COVID ” ) .
