Price stubbornness in housing, public services and regulated goods, leading to an upward revision of year-end inflation forecast (from 4.4% to 5.1%) and policy rates (from 7.5% to 8.25%). Despite efforts to account for underperforming tax revenue and higher expenditure in the MFMP, fiscal pressure led the government to apply an “escape clause” to the fiscal rule for the period 2025-2028; hence a fiscal deficit baseline forecast of 7,1% of GDP this year. Economic Growth Inflation and Interest Rates Fiscal and External Imbalances Source: DANE, Banco de la República, Ministerio de Hacienda. Forecasts by Grupo Cibest. Economic activity is on a more constructive path with estimated GDP growth of 2.6% this year, mainly driven by household consumption. 2025 Central America´s Economic Outlook El Salvador Panamá Guatemala Source: INEC, Banco Central de Reserva de El Salvador, Banco de Guatemala. Forecasts by Grupo Cibest. 10 Panama´s economy in 2024 was marked by the shutdown of copper production. Looking ahead, the recovery in growth is expected to be driven by operations at the Canal, infrastructure investment and strong tourism. Economic activity is expected to converge toward a growth rate of 2,2%. This forecast is underpinned by weakening external demand and the ongoing process of fiscal consolidation. Economic activity is expected to remain supported by household consumption and infrastructure investment, allowing growth to hover above 3%. We expect this robust domestic demand to offset the potential slowdown in exports.
