( Nasdaq : NFBK ) , the holding company for Northfield Bank , reported diluted earnings per common share of $ 0.38 for quarter ended March 31 , 2021 , as compared to $ 0.26 per diluted share for the quarter ended December 31 , 2020 , and $ 0.10 per diluted share for the quarter ended March 31 , 2020. Earnings for the quarter ended March 31 , 2021 , included a negative provision for loan losses of $ 2.4 million , reflecting an improvement in the forecasted economic outlook during the quarter , as compared to provisions for loan losses of $ 2.5 million and $ 8.2 million for the quarters ended December 31 , 2020 , and March 31 , 2020 , respectively , under the incurred loss methodology . The provision for loan losses for the quarter ended March 31 , 2020 , included incremental loss provisions of $ 6.2 million ( $ 4.6 million after - tax ) , related to additional factors considered for economic uncertainties related to the Coronavirus Disease 2019
