• The service industry is grappling with significant labor shortages, with 38% of small business owners reporting unfilled job openings as of February 2025¹. Key sectors, including retail, leisure and hospitality, and professional services, are particularly affected • To combat these shortages, businesses have been increasing wages. Average hourly earnings in private service-providing industries rose by approximately 3.7% from March 2024 to March 2025², reflecting efforts to attract and retain workers • Despite these measures, many service businesses continue to face staffing challenges, as indicated by high job opening rates.
